"Waydes World Hawaii"

This old geezer received an invite to join this channel on YOUTUBE. Priding self on recognizing brilliance when seen, the invite was accepted.

Truth be told, the chap who has this channel is far more clever than the old geezer in how he promotes his content.  Very slick and polished. This old geezer makes no claim to being a brilliant film maker, the filmed bits are very amateurish, to say the least.  Mind, there might be a method to my madness, in that the lack of professional polish lends a heart felt quality to the filmed bits.

I digress...

'Wayde's World' is special.  Special in the sense that the chap truly adores Hawaii and does not mind sharing his love for with the whole world.

I may be a Bostonian at Heart but my Spirit lives and breaths Aloha..."HA". So says Wayde on his channel.  He says a lot more and would like to pass his thoughts on to you.

I must make clear is not all Rainbows and Sunshine...There are 3 minor issues I have with mainly the island of OAHU:

1.) OAHU has the second worst Traffic for a large city in the United States behind LA. Yes, you read that correctly...Mind you, it's only during Rush Hour and during the week and only at the center of the city that it's bad...outside the city there is no traffic.

2.) There is a problem with "TOURIST"
car break ins and they always seem to be at well known tourist attraction locations and in clear view. How can you prevent these punks from breaking into your car? You first should never leave anything of value in your car. Second, never leave anything in your car that may look to be of value, even a store bag that could have just oranges or bananas in it...Don't give them an excuse to break into your car. Last, use your head when choosing what car to rent, some cars are broken into more than others. If you have a sticker on the back bumper on how to open your truck...remove it...it's a dead giveaway!

3.) Like many places around the world
as well as the United States there are Homeless and since the economic turndown it has become an even bigger issue. What saddens me the most, and very few vacationers know of this, is the fact that mainland states actually send homeless people from their states with one way tickets to Hawai'i, mainly Oahu. The problem the state of Hawai'i is having is how do they send them back from where they came from with one way tickets. There are no more Homeless here than anywhere else but it may appear like there is because they are out in the open and in view all the time because they live in Hawaii where the weather is perfect. Once these one way homeless plane ticket holders get here why would they want to leave? It is clear they can live better outside in Hawaii then deal with a harsh New York winter by sleeping in subways or on sidewalk heat vent systems. I just needed to be clear on this so don't be surprised if you come across homeless people in Public parks or on Waikiki street corners. It may make you sick and you may ask yourself, why can't these people just go away, well it's called reality and people in this world are really having a hard time right now and I see it everyday. This is one of the reasons I created "The Poor Man's Guide" because for those who do work their butt off and get little in return, you deserve to see Hawai'i the same way anyone else does. If you work hard, if you save and sacrifice, I want you to have the best time you can while here in Hawai'i.

I am not proud of any of these minor issues but they are issues and I feel it wouldn't be right to continue to talk about all the wonderful things I love about Hawaii and not talk about what I don't like...Much Aloha everyone

Round now, you might well be asking selves why this old geezer is banging on about a site that has nothing to do with The Big Island or Hilo.  Oahu gets massive attention.  It does, but there is a point to be made, if faithful readers will allow MOI to get to it.

With the exception of traffic, all of the points made by Wayde about Oahu are equally valid here on the Big Island and in Hilo.  One can not hide from truth.

Wayde clearly has a love affair going with Hawaii, the filmed bits glow with delight.  The filmed bit featured could apply to shopping in Hilo and the bargains to be found at the Farmer's Market.  Truly...

Many guests of the hostel have been to or are going to Oahu while in Hawaii.  Why not share treasures to be enjoyed.  In time, the old geezer will try to cover many of the wonders to be enjoyed in Hilo and on the Big Island.

Rumour has it that Wayde might journey to The Big Island and check out the local scene, even pop in at the Hilo Bay Hostel.  Fancy that...
