CHICKEN DANCE CHAMPION RETURNS

"Youngest Roomie" Returns
There are times that the gods throw a real gem me way.  Today is 'National Dance Like a Chicken Day'.  What, you clever folks have never heard of this holiday?  Might well be due to where you hail from.  Alan comes from Chicago.  The home of 'dead voters', Oprah's Diet Farm and the all time champions of Chicken Dancing.

Gentlemen of the orchestra, a little Chicken Dance music...

How funny is that?

Alan has been busy sorting out things to be able to return to lovely Reno.  Been gone for two months.  During which, the old geezer has kept him aware of what is happening in the place he will be calling home.

The old geezer is quite fond of Alan.  Sort of grows on you, like a fungus in the shower, Alan does.  His dry wit is so very British and one waits with bated breath to hear what gems he will post on me blog.

Mind, Alan is one of the gems in life one would have missed if one were to be closed minded to.  One has to draw out Alan.  It is well worth the effort.  Rather think that the old geezer will be keeping Alan in loop for long time to come.  Alan makes me laugh and think.  How special is that?

Rather think we need a little more music...

HAPPY MUM DAY

Mummy never wanted folks to know she had any children.
Mummy told true, she had been round the block more than once...
No doubt if Mummy had  old geezer, she might well have had this conversation with.  Mind, she was only 50% right...

The lovely folks who had a brilliant mum, congrats, you got lucky.  Truth be told, so did the old geezer, better to not have had, than to have had a horrid creature to live with.

Took MOI ages to see the humour of the situation...

FORGET EASYJET

The next time the old geezer goes on holiday it will be with a booking on the airline featured in the snap.

What is not to love about an airline that tells up-front that it is out to screw you?  Can you imagine?  The drinks are probably watered down, food is bad, the seats more than like do not work other than in the prone position and all aboard are more than like charter members of the MILE HIGH CLUB.

Do you think they print out the boarding passes on condom packets???

BIT OF A HOLIDAY

I refuse to let medical problems take a bite out of.  Hilo may well be lacking in all of the doctors needed, but a short trip to Oahu solves that.

I am on Oahu, getting meself sorted out.  Truth be told, it has gone swell.  Rather think that my return to sleepy Hilo will be one that is full of energy on me part.  Bugger the lame leg...

Rather think the old geezer will be among the living for some time to come.  There are no cures but most of the problems have been brought under control.  I know that there be some who want details.  Sadly, there will be no blow-by-blow.  Really, no one wants to hear tales of woe.

I have not posted much, and more than like will not until I return to Hilo.  I only do this as so many have written wondering if the old geezer had died.  I am not dead...

I rather think that folks will have to read some of the posts missed to tide them over...

Kamehameha Day on June 11 is a public holiday of the state of Hawaii. It honors Kamehameha, The Great, the monarch who established the unified Hawaii.

The most important ritual performed this day, dates back to 1901 after the Territory of Hawaiʻi was established. It is the evening draping ceremony in which the Kamehameha Statue in front of Aliʻiolani Hale and ʻIolani Palace on King Street in downtown Honolulu is draped in long strands of lei. The same is done at the Kamehameha Statue on the former monarch's home island, the Big Island of Hawaiʻi. Outside of the state, a similar draping ceremony is held at the United States Capitol where the Kamehameha Statue there is also draped in lei in the company of federal officials.

Being an old geezer, I rather miss the celebration of events on the actual day.  Giving folks an extra day off by making the Friday before a holiday, makes the day less special.  TODAY is Kamehameha Day...

THE OLD GEEZER'S HILO, HAWAII

If one is going to live in a place, one should LIVE. This old geezer is passionate about Hilo, Hawaii. He is also passionate about the Hilo Bay Hostel. No apologies for shameless advert of place lived.
So it rains a bit in Hilo, it does in London as well, and that did not turn the old geezer off.
This old geezer remembers a Hawaii of 40 years ago, and it still exists in Hilo. Hilo the true home of ALOHA and OHANA. The truly clever traveller to Hawaii comes to Hilo, Hawaii, where dreams are made.

WAIKIKI 'HOME and GARDEN'

Queen Victoria medal collection
Stands to reason that a 'collector' and Ron does collect, would have something this old geezer would adore.

This collection of commemorative coins dating back to the reign of Queen Victoria would look rather smart on me wall in Hilo.  Mind, hardly think Ron is going to part with.
Colourful screen and ancient sword
If you are going to cover a wall, what better way than to put up a brilliant screen.  Truth be told, it does catch the eye.  Takes up one whole wall in living room area.  Gives a perfect place to 'hang' things from, like the sword from the film "300", such a deal it was.
Tutti-Fruitie shoes from Glagla
My dears, this old geezer has been known to be right colourful but never so colourful that he would set out on pavement with such footwear.  "But they are from France." Ron proclaims.  This old geezer does not care if they are from the dark side of the moon, would not be caught dead in.  Top it all off with the title of the bleeden shoes, 'Tuttie-Fruitie', like MOI needed any help drawing attention to what most pick up on unaided by colourful footwear.
Helmet from '300' movie
Who needs a helmet?  Weight is heavy upon head and is bloody hot.  Mind, it comes from one of them 'gladiator' type films.
Ancient Pot to Pee in?
How here is a piece the old geezer can relate to.  One must have a 'pot' for 'lolly'.  Mind, one would have to find a dark corner to hide it, as folks would tend to 'help' selves to.  Bit too heavy for carry on or it might have journeyed back to Hilo with the old geezer.
Sign of Times
Just down from 'Casa Ronaldo' is complex that has been turned into 'tourist accommadations'.  The 'to let' advert does not lie.  You get but a small room, one would hardly call it a 'bedsit', it is that small.  One shares the loo and shower.  The chappie that has the small 'hotel' makes no apology for what is lacking, knowing full on that many will love being close to beach and all.

The chappie is well known to the old geezer, met when he was quite young.  Life has been kind to and he has aged well.
If This Tree Could Talk
This massive Banyan tree sits on the corner of Kuhio, just down from 'Casa Ronaldo'.  Provided much shade to a host of Waikiki characters in its day, I have no doubt.

What better way to end, than with a colourful snap of me gracious host.  Sitting in the laundry area of his flat.  No better way to get rid of the soiled linen...

This old geezer could have gone on and on about the treasure filled flat, why would be the point?  How much can one say about Afghan carpets, bronze busts of Aristotle and Socrates, baroque chairs and gilded mirrors?  Let us just say that Ron adores surrounding self with finer things and not nary a piece of Hawaiiana to be found.

All in all, a most enjoyable visit...
