ROMNEY IS NOT HOMOPHOBIC

Mitt Romney has been forced to apologize today for forcibly shaving the head of a high school classmate who was regularly taunted for being gay.

Even if the old geezer did not have a public diary, the news item in the Daily Mail would have deserved an entry.  MOI is sort of chap who likes to remember things.

What a world we live in.  It has been some 40 plus years since Mr. Romney was in high school.  No doubt he, like so many high school students, did things that were not what one would want to remember as high points.

MOI is from the same era as Mr. Romney.  It is easy to view actions of that time, in the light of today, and not realize that the 60's were a totally different time.  Truth be told, if any person in school acted 'different' they were suspect.  Remember, this was before 'sexual revolution'.  Tight trousers were looked on as 'gay', no doubt coloured hair was thought to be 'gay'.  MOI seems to recall that most of classmates tried very hard to be very 'butch' acting.  That is just the way it was.

Right, so a mean thing happened.  Do you not think that the old geezer suffered means acts at the hands of classmates due to his 'soft' nature?

Mr. Romney has apologized for what happened.  That is good enough for this old geezer.  MOI truly believes that there was no need.  No doubt, some youths in that time period did far worse than Mr. Romney did.  What happened so very long ago is not what Mr. Romney is today.  Mr. Romney has his beliefs, just like so many other heterosexual men.  I accept that.  I do not think Mr. Romney is homophobic, nor that he spends any time thinking how to make like harder for fellow citizens who might be different than himself.

It would be horrid, if this episode from his youth took on a greater meaning than it has.  MOI is of opinion that it is what Mr. Romney is today that matters.

If we can forgive Mr. Obama his use of drugs at university, then we should not make more out of Mr. Romney's high school youthful bad prank.

MOI is a homosexual who lived through the 60's.  It was a different world than the world of today.  Being homosexual was not easy for MOI and there were no clear rules of behaviour for young heterosexual males to follow.  As the old geezer recalls, every 'soft' acting male was called a Nancy boy.  That is just the way it was.

What seems so very wrong in 2012, was not so clearly defined in 1960's.  We need to remember that, and move on...

Mr. Romney has been consistent in his stated views on homosexual lifestyle.  Unlike Mr. Obama, who has changed his at least three times in past ten years.  This is one homosexual who is not troubled by what Mr. Romney did over 40 years ago.
