DICHOTOMOUS ANDY

A politician (from Greek "polis") is an individual who is involved in influencing public decision making. This includes people who hold decision-making positions in government, and people who seek those positions, whether by means of election, coup d'état, appointment, electoral fraud, conquest, right of inheritance or other means.

My dears, to say that MOI was a fan of Supervisor Andy Vasquez when first laid eyes on would be a load of tosh.  To the contrary, anything but, and a favoured quote about politicians sprang to fore of me loaf;

"Whoever makes two ears of corn, or two blades of grass to grow where only one grew before, deserves better of mankind, and does more essential service to his country than the whole race of politicians put together."Jonathan Swift

It was at the 'Ice Cream Social' held at complex lived in August of 2009, Andy showed up late and totally ignored MOI.  Being full of hubris, yes, this old geezer has such moments, it seemed to confirm all that had been said of Andy and his appointment to the Board of Supervisors by the sitting governor to fill a vacancy.

Another politician had been foisted upon the local community by political grace and favour, not merit.  Another chap who would crawl over our backs to land in a more brilliant political office when the time was right.  What difference would come about by another uncaring soul who would ignore the blight of the community, Linda in particular?

The problem with hubris is that one is oft wrong and history has a way of making sure that the sin of is brought to light.  Pray forgive MOI for having sinned against Andy.  Mind, I do not agree with all that Supervisor Vasquez supports, the USPS problem springs to mind.  I have got to know the man that Andy Vasquez is and want to share what I know of him with me mates local and they that follow me political leanings from afar.

Some bio on Andy;

Andy Vasquez served seven years in the Marine Corps 65-72, 18 months in Vietnam.  Fancy that.  Who would have thought Andy was a Marine, he does not look like 'John Wayne'.  Right, John Wayne was not one either, just an actor playing a role, one that is no piece of theatre for Andy.  War is hell and one has to respect the courage displayed by Andy.  Andy was a computer programmer for seven years. That was a shocker to learn, Andy is far from coming off as a nerd, no wall flower our Andy be.  Since 1975, he has been self employed in the spa industry, solar sales and installation, insulation sales, computer consulting, auto mechanical industry, automotive equipment repair business and direct mail advertising, covering Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington, and New Mexico.  Talk about a 'jack of all trades'.  There must be a whole country of dirt on his wellies as well, Andy had been round a bit.  In 2002, he received his first U.S. Patent. Andy's design significantly improved performance of the equipment he repaired.  This be the part that has this old geezer gobsmacked.  Who would have thought that Andy was a 'Ben Franklin'?


Andy graduated from the Yuba County Police Academy at Yuba Community College at age 59 and has served as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff since 2004. He currently serves on the Juvenile Justice Commission and Chairs the Methamphetamine Awareness Committee.  He is a member of the Yuba County Republican Committee and a lifetime member of the VFW, life member of DAV, member of American Legion.

Andy Vasquez has a bit to crow about.  Mind, being one who is not shy meself, admire a man who can fess up to being bloody brilliant.

Much said so far is common knowledge.  Allow MOI to enlighten the dear deader of what is not so commonly known about Andy.

Andy is passionately in his desire to help the children of Linda and all of Yuba County to be the most brilliant possible.  Taking time from busy schedule has him coming to road with cash, from own pocket, to contribute to the purchase of much needed school supplies for the poor children of community.  Matching amount from this old geezer a massive amount of supplies were made available at start of school year.

Knowing that there is much need in community, Andy has championed the cause of a local church in feeding the poor.  Making sure that folks who might not otherwise have a holiday meal, got one.  Not just one holiday but all, even going so far to make sure that support was given to help with the feeding of poor during the times when we tend to forget, the days that fall between holidays.

The 'Christmas Miracle of Linda' was made more brilliant with Andy giving of self to ensure that a homeless family was made whole again.

Andy came round before Christmas and visited with a chap who is bed bound, he is on Hospice and will not be long with us.  Andy got a small Christmas Tree, decorated with brilliant ornaments, to brighten the living room for the chap.  Even had his lovely wife bake cookies for.  Regular 'Father Christmas', Andy be.

Andy loathes drugs as much as this old geezer and has been a massive support in the effort to right the road, community and complex in Linda.  Takes personal interest in trying to show that what may have been thought of Linda is not true.  Drugs are NOT a way of life in Linda.

More oft than not Andy is first one to reply to emails for help from this old geezer.  Andy does not try to ignore pleas for help.  Many being 'au fait' with me style, know that this old geezer bangs out emails quite early.  Andy is up early as well and reads AND responds.  Andy had the cheek to suggest that this old geezer was one of the night creatures that hang from the ceiling of caves.  A giggle was had at that suggestion.

In planning the massive Block Party for May 8th, 2010, Andy was first to RSVP.  Have no doubt that LINDA DRUG OUT will be massive, due in no small way to Andy's support.

Oft can Andy been seen in wee hours of morn headed to local eatery to take part in weekly meeting of the Lions Club.  No small thing when you consider how packed schedule be.

Truth be told, this old geezer could go on and on about what has been learned about the man that Andy be.  Not wanting the whole world to think MOI has gone 'gooey' on Andy will have to leave some facts left out of this reportage.  Time enough to re-visit them at a later date.

Andy may not come from a long line of Republicans like MOI, the DeFrees Family is well known in Republican circles, but is is most brilliant nevertheless.  No one is perfect and he can always bask in me reflected glory as a SAR and being related to one who knew Lincoln up close and personal.

As these thing go, Andy may well not like what has been said of.  That is just the way of it, from my lips to the ears of the hoi polloi...

Andy is still very much a part of the local scene.  Still sits on the Board of Supervisors.  Still trying to make a difference.

I have been blessed to meet some brilliant folks.  Andy is one of the more brilliant.  A most superior person...
