'PARTING IS SUCH SWEET SORROW'

As with all good times, there is an end.  In the words of Cat Stevens;'morning has broken...'  'Away Day' comes too quickly, luggage to be repacked, last minute mementos to purchase and the steeling of one's self to do the parting.

Last night, Lulu clothed herself ala "Elizabeth Taylor" in a stunning green gown, Cathrine The Great, settled for the ever so chic and  simple black dress, Twain settled on a black linen collared shirt as did the Big Kahuna in a rather smart blue one.  The gathering of chums was added by one, by the arrival of another personage coming for that last night in Hilo.  Rumour had it that reservations had been made at a very fashionable eatery in town.  What passed between the diners is unknown to the old geezer but one can be sure it was a moment to be remembered well.

What is well known is that the departure of the school chums will be felt.  Rooms called home for a few days will be made ready for more guests to arrive.  Pillows will be fluffed, duvets smoothed out and lamps turned on to welcome others.  New friends perhaps.

I will no doubt not see the warm glow from rooms left in the same light as before.

It has come to pass that this old geezer has had the great good fortune to meet a good selection of the folks that The Big Kahuna holds dear.  While it is true that the bubbles from champagne shared with other close friends added a glow to cheek and a tickle to ample honker of the old geezer, the warm and refreshing waters of the friendship shared these past few day have lasted so much longer.  Champagne has to be taken in small amounts, while water is a mainstay of life.   One need not feel guilty at the over indulgence of.

This old geezer will long remember the ever present smile of Lulu, the lively eyes of Cathrine The Great and the amused and knowing stare of Twain.

It will also be long remembered the glow of pure pleasure upon the face of the Big Kahuna at having had the opportunity to share quality time with absent friends.

In the days to come, memories of shared experiences will float to the fore of brain and have no doubt that a smile or two will grace face of the moments shared.

And so dear reader, so goes it from Hilo, Hawaii.  The sun will set on this day ever so slowly...

  1. Good friendships begin, they never end Ro-bear. I'm happy to have raised a toast or two with you, and I was there in spirit with the rest of the gang thanks in large part to your wonderful blog. I can't wait to welcome home the gang with their new monikers as well :-)

Thanks for your updates and friendship!

  2. Dearest Robert,
I was so touched by what you wrote. This time we had the song playing in the background while your words were being read. It adds another dimension--it is almost like a movie. I am sitting here at the airport with tears in my eyes. Even Twain was moved. I am not sure if you picked up that "Lulu" is quite the sappy lady.

    We will write more later...
    Big hugs!

    Lulu and Twain
