WATCHING THE TELLY

I am not keen on the telly, all of the adverts tend to annoy me, but I do watch a programme on occasion.

Recently, I watched for the umpteen time a film I am quite fond of, "Ladies in Lavender". It was on one of the channels that is advert free, and as my best mate would say, it is a "British film", hence, I adore. Not quite that bad but do tend to love British films.

I digress.

The film is about two old English ladies who find a young lad washed up onto the shore near their home. He can not speak English, and has a broken leg to boot. One of the ladies takes a keen like to the lad, has something to do with her searching for lost love. The lad mends and goes off to London to be discovered as a violinist, leaving the two old ladies heart broken. It is about music and love, love sought and love of life given. Were it just for the music it would be worth a watch, but it also has performances by Judi Dench and Maggie Smith that are well worth the time.

The film strikes a deep cord inside of me. Perhaps it has to do with the sharing of two ladies with a lost soul. I am an old bugger, there might be some who would think 67 is not that old.  It is.

Youth has flown and one clings to the past tighter than when one was young. You remember things in a different way, perhaps appreciate life more fully, less apt to be quick to judge or hasten one's path through it. Each time I have sat through this film it has brought back memories, good memories tinged with a measure of sadness. It may seem a bit of a stretch but in many ways that is life as lived at present, older showing hope to the younger. We each in our own way gain from the association, each is rejuvenated and renewed. That is the way of it.

Mind, I do not see myself as an old lady or for that matter the young lad, it is just that one can place one's self in their position and relate. No clue why I am banging on about this, may well add fuel to the feeling I am a right nutter. Since I have taken to writing my thoughts in so public a fashion, thought I would just share.

Have a brilliant day...

66 REASONS TO BE HAPPY

I will tell true, the warm glow of me birthday is still about me.  66 may not be as ancient an age as some, but it is an age that was in doubt of achieving.  Turn the numbers up side down and it may well come to pass that the old geezer will be still pounding on his keyboard at age 99.  Now that is a scary thought...
While it may be true that the old geezer is not the handsome devil he once was, there is still much to admire in the looks department.  Life has been kind, the signs of age are gentle...
I am gobsmacked at how well folks knew me and gifted with things that were a joy to receive.  Not a bad gift in the lot.  I am deeply touched by the Hawaiian quilt received from a lovely lady.  That she made the quilt with me in mind is ever so touching.  I also received a plant from another lovely lady.  The sort of plant I so love.
Who knew that 66 was going to be so grand?  Just think what would have been missed if the old geezer had given up.
I am so blessed that my jar is too full to close.
I will have to ponder the gift of 2 dollar bills received.
I wonder if I can bottle the feelings of the last day.  Like a bottle of very expensive cologne, one can dap a little on self in the days ahead and recapture the high...

WHERE DID MY YOUTH GO?

This old geezer remembers well the Days of Disco. Been told I was quite the dancer.  Fancy that...

I do not long for the feel  of polyester or to stomp round in platform shoes, just would love to be able to more more.  Actually had a pair of boots in Paris that were quite daring.  Along with the tight trousers and very floral shirt, this old geezer must have been quite the sight.  Mind, I seem to recall that all of the chaps were dressed like.

How does the song go?  'Thoes were the days, my friend.  We thought they would never end.'

It can not be that MOI is the only one who recalls these things?

ROMNEY IS NOT HOMOPHOBIC

Mitt Romney has been forced to apologize today for forcibly shaving the head of a high school classmate who was regularly taunted for being gay.

Even if the old geezer did not have a public diary, the news item in the Daily Mail would have deserved an entry.  MOI is sort of chap who likes to remember things.

What a world we live in.  It has been some 40 plus years since Mr. Romney was in high school.  No doubt he, like so many high school students, did things that were not what one would want to remember as high points.

MOI is from the same era as Mr. Romney.  It is easy to view actions of that time, in the light of today, and not realize that the 60's were a totally different time.  Truth be told, if any person in school acted 'different' they were suspect.  Remember, this was before 'sexual revolution'.  Tight trousers were looked on as 'gay', no doubt coloured hair was thought to be 'gay'.  MOI seems to recall that most of classmates tried very hard to be very 'butch' acting.  That is just the way it was.

Right, so a mean thing happened.  Do you not think that the old geezer suffered means acts at the hands of classmates due to his 'soft' nature?

Mr. Romney has apologized for what happened.  That is good enough for this old geezer.  MOI truly believes that there was no need.  No doubt, some youths in that time period did far worse than Mr. Romney did.  What happened so very long ago is not what Mr. Romney is today.  Mr. Romney has his beliefs, just like so many other heterosexual men.  I accept that.  I do not think Mr. Romney is homophobic, nor that he spends any time thinking how to make like harder for fellow citizens who might be different than himself.

It would be horrid, if this episode from his youth took on a greater meaning than it has.  MOI is of opinion that it is what Mr. Romney is today that matters.

If we can forgive Mr. Obama his use of drugs at university, then we should not make more out of Mr. Romney's high school youthful bad prank.

MOI is a homosexual who lived through the 60's.  It was a different world than the world of today.  Being homosexual was not easy for MOI and there were no clear rules of behaviour for young heterosexual males to follow.  As the old geezer recalls, every 'soft' acting male was called a Nancy boy.  That is just the way it was.

What seems so very wrong in 2012, was not so clearly defined in 1960's.  We need to remember that, and move on...

Mr. Romney has been consistent in his stated views on homosexual lifestyle.  Unlike Mr. Obama, who has changed his at least three times in past ten years.  This is one homosexual who is not troubled by what Mr. Romney did over 40 years ago.
