NEW WEEK

Let us see if the month of March is going to end with a bang.

This is Holy Week....

Lord, I hope I do not get nailed to a cross on Friday.....

THE DAY AFTER

The big day has come and gone.  It will be another year before I can beg for gifts again...

Truth be told, I always seem to do well on birthdays.  People like me.  Fancy that...

I got cards, the old fashion kind, and loads of the internet kind.

I got some gift cards, some cash, and some real neat stuff.

Like two lamps for my new apartment.  A crystal gravy bowl, for the smart candle-lighted suppers I will have.  I got a Ronald Reagan Presidential Match Book.  Books and assorted collectables.

I also got baked goods.  The real good kind, fresh from the bakery in the early morning of my birthday.

I was taken out to supper.  Nice meal with a lovely glass of wine and most excellent company to enjoy the meal with.

All in all, I can hardly wait until next year....

“You know, I understand wanting gay marriage. I would never vote for somebody that was against gay marriage. I purposely have no desire to imitate a rather corny tradition of heterosexuals, to me. I would owe three alimonies.” 

“I don’t fit in with gay people either. I’m gaily incorrect. I kinda want gay people to be outlaws again. I don’t wanna get married but I certainly believe that people have the right to be married. I never fit in. There’s too many rules in the gay world too. So if I ever talk about my homosexuality, which I certainly do, I don’t do it in a very gaily correct way. I think people should hang around with gay, straight, everybody, completely mixed. Many of my friends are straight. It’s just as much fun to me. I don’t wanna hang around with everyone that’s exactly like me. I went to a wedding in Chicago between a straight man and a straight woman but they had a gay commitment ceremony, a bad one on purpose — like a bad separatist female folk singer and bad gay music, and it was really good. The relatives were confused.” 

“Well, you can’t avoid Christmas. You have to embrace it, either for the right reasons or the wrong reasons. Or you can reject it, but you have to think of a funny way to reject it. You have to use humor to get through Christmas, because it’s a trying time financially and emotionally…Whatever hand you’re dealt from your family, Christmas is the time when it’s hardest to make it work. But you’ve gotta try.” 

“I went to a Catholic high school, which, to this day, I could burn down. And I got great revenge because they had their fiftieth anniversary, and The Baltimore Sun called me and said, ‘What did you think of your high school?’ And I said, ‘They discouraged every interest I ever had.’ And I saw that in print.” 

MY HEART IS FULL

I HAVE BEEN HAPPY EVERY HOUR OF THE DAY, MY HEART IS FULL, FOR I KNOW I HAVE BEEN LOVED.

Truth be told, there were times when I felt unloved.  That has not been the case of late.  Birthdays have a way of showing you how many lives you have touched and how you have been touched in return.

I like me.  More important, I know that people like me.  How lovely it is to know that there be some who go all gooey over you...

If life is a banquet, I am guilty of eating too much...
